easy5 min totalPrep: 5mCook: 0mServes: 1
A proper deli-style breakfast without the deli price tag or calorie bomb. Using bagel thins instead of full bagels cuts the carbs in half, and smoked salmon delivers quality protein plus omega-3 fatty acids.
Ingredients
- 1 bagel thin (e.g. New York Bakery Co.)
- 80g smoked salmon
- 30g light cream cheese (e.g. Philadelphia Light)
- 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
- A few capers
- Fresh dill (optional)
- Squeeze of lemon juice
- Black pepper
Method
- Toast the bagel thin to your preference.
- Spread the cream cheese evenly over both halves.
- Layer the smoked salmon on top.
- Add the red onion slices and capers.
- Finish with fresh dill, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a grind of black pepper.
Pro Tip
Aldi and Lidl both sell excellent smoked salmon at a fraction of the Tesco or Sainsbury's price. Stock up when it's on offer and freeze it — defrost overnight in the fridge.
Nutrition Notes
80g of smoked salmon delivers around 18g protein with minimal fat. Combined with the cream cheese and bagel thin, you get a balanced breakfast at 350 calories. The omega-3s from the salmon also support recovery during hard training blocks.
