PhD Lean Degree Review — Is It Worth It?
PhD Lean Degree is a mild thermogenic from a brand with solid credentials in the protein space. It's less aggressively stimulant than Grenade Thermo Detonator but also less effective, and the premium over basic caffeine-green tea supplements is hard to justify.
What Is It?
Lean Degree is PhD's thermogenic weight-management supplement — part of their broader nutrition and diet range that includes Diet whey protein. It positions itself as a scientifically formulated product, though the formula doesn't particularly distinguish itself from the competition.
Ingredients & Nutrition

Per 2-capsule serving: 150mg caffeine, 200mg green tea extract (50% EGCG), 100mg choline, 60mg CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), and 500mcg chromium picolinate. No calories.
The caffeine at 150mg is on the lower end — more gentle than Thermopure's 200mg, which positions it for stimulant-sensitive users. The CLA inclusion at 60mg is a token dose — research on CLA typically uses 3–6g daily. Chromium picolinate has evidence for supporting blood glucose regulation, which may mildly support appetite management.
Choline is an unusual inclusion — it supports fat metabolism and is often deficient in UK diets, making it a thoughtful if modest addition. The green tea EGCG standardisation at 50% is good.
Taste & Mixability
Capsule form. The moderate caffeine dose makes it more suitable for afternoon or evening use than higher-stimulant alternatives, though caution within 4–5 hours of bed is still sensible.
Effectiveness
The honest answer for any fat burner: modest. Lean Degree's lower caffeine dose means less appetite suppression and less metabolic boost than Thermopure. The CLA and choline are interesting additions but at underdoses for standalone effectiveness. The product is unlikely to produce noticeable results beyond what good diet and training achieve independently.
Where it may add marginal value is for very stimulant-sensitive individuals who want any thermogenic support without the jitteriness of higher-stimulant products.
Value for Money
At £15.99 for 60 capsules (30 servings), you're paying approximately £0.53 per serving. That's positioned between Thermopure and Grenade — but provides less energy impact than Thermopure and fewer stimulants than Grenade. The middle-ground positioning doesn't produce a compelling value case.
Pros
Cons
Verdict
PhD Lean Degree is a mild, inoffensive thermogenic that won't cause problems and won't cause transformation. The CLA dose is so far below research quantities as to be irrelevant, and the lower caffeine means it underdelivers on energy support compared to Thermopure at a lower price. A sensible choice only if you need minimal stimulants and happen to find it on sale.
