Applied Nutrition ABE Pre-Workout Review — Is It Worth It?
ABE (All Black Everything) has become one of the UK's best-selling pre-workouts for good reason. Applied Nutrition have produced a high-stimulant formula with a memorable brand, aggressive marketing, and a taste profile that punches well above its price point. If you want energy and you want it now, ABE delivers.
What Is It?
ABE is Applied Nutrition's flagship pre-workout — a high-stimulant, performance-focused formula. It's become particularly popular in UK gyms and on social media, where its bold branding and strong energy effect have built a loyal following. Available in a wide range of flavours including some unusual UK-exclusive options.
Ingredients & Nutrition

Per 10.5g serving: 200mg caffeine, 4g citrulline malate (2:1 ratio), 1.5g beta-alanine, 500mg taurine, 375mg alpha-GPC, and 100mg L-theanine. At just 5 calories per serving, it's entirely stimulant and nootropic focused.
The inclusion of alpha-GPC is a genuine differentiator — it's a nootropic compound that supports cognitive function and the mind-muscle connection during training. The L-theanine pairing with caffeine is well-researched and helps smooth out the stimulant effect, reducing jitteriness while maintaining focus. However, the beta-alanine at 1.5g is below the clinical dose (3.2g), which is a minor let-down.
Taste & Mixability
ABE's flavour range is its standout feature. Candy Ice Blast, Cherry Cola, and Iced Coffee are all genuinely enjoyable — some of the most palatable pre-workout flavours in the UK market. Mixability is excellent; the powder dissolves easily in 350ml water.
The tingling from beta-alanine is mild at this dose, which some people prefer. If you want the full paraesthesia effect, the dose here won't fully deliver.
Effectiveness
The combination of 200mg caffeine with L-theanine produces a clean, focused energy — noticeably better than caffeine alone. The alpha-GPC addition improves mental focus during training, and citrulline malate provides a solid pump effect. For the majority of training sessions, ABE provides a meaningful and consistent performance boost.
Applied Nutrition's UK manufacturing and good quality control mean the formula is consistent across batches — something not guaranteed with all pre-workout brands.
Value for Money
At £27.99 for 30 servings (315g), you're paying approximately £0.93 per serving. That's competitive — cheaper than Ghost Legend and Grenade while offering a more complete formula than Cellucor C4. ABE regularly appears on deal sites at £18–22, which makes it one of the best-value pre-workouts in the UK at sale price.
Pros
Cons
Verdict
ABE is one of the best pre-workouts available in the UK at this price point. The nootropic additions (alpha-GPC, L-theanine) produce a qualitatively better training focus than simpler caffeine-only products, and the taste range is class-leading. The beta-alanine dose is a minor compromise, but the overall formula is well-thought-out. A strong recommendation for anyone who trains in the morning or early afternoon.
