Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce wraps are one of the most satisfying low-carb meals available — the crunch of iceberg lettuce and the savoury filling work together in a way that doesn't make you feel like you're eating diet food. The filling takes 12 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 400g minced chicken (or turkey mince)
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce, leaves separated into cups
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 spring onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 red chilli, finely sliced (optional)
  • Fresh coriander to serve

Method

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over high heat. Add the minced chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, breaking up until cooked through.
  2. Add the garlic and ginger. Cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Toss together.
  4. Cook for 2 more minutes until the sauce reduces and coats the mince.
  5. Serve the chicken mixture in iceberg lettuce cups, topped with spring onions, chilli, and coriander.

Pro Tip

Serve the filling in a bowl alongside the lettuce leaves and let everyone fill their own at the table — this prevents the lettuce wilting if you're eating over 10–15 minutes. The filling stays hot in the bowl.

Nutrition Notes

Iceberg lettuce provides negligible carbohydrates — around 1.5g per 100g. Using it as a wrap base makes this meal compatible with strict ketogenic approaches at under 5g total carbs per serving, while still delivering a satisfying, flavourful dinner.
